AMFLOW PR Carbon & PR Carbon Pro: A New Kind of eMTB Is Coming to New Zealand

Aaron Cathro |

The wait is almost over. The AMFLOW PR Carbon and PR Carbon Pro are due to land in New Zealand — and they could change what you expect from a full-power eMTB.

There are plenty of electric mountain bikes on the market promising more power, more range and more capability.

AMFLOW has taken a different approach.

Instead of simply building a bigger, heavier eMTB, AMFLOW has focused on the relationship between power, weight, handling and technology — creating bikes that are designed to deliver serious motor assistance without losing the character that makes a mountain bike exciting to ride.

The result is the new AMFLOW PR Carbon and PR Carbon Pro.

And they are coming to New Zealand.

The AMFLOW PR Carbon Pro combines a lightweight carbon chassis with the powerful Avinox M2S drive system.

Built Around a Different Idea

The PR is not designed around the idea that an eMTB should simply be as powerful as possible.

It's designed around making that power usable.

At the heart of the PR Carbon Pro is the Avinox M2S drive unit, producing up to 150Nm of torque and 1,500W peak power. The standard PR Carbon uses the Avinox M2 drive unit, with up to 125Nm of peak torque.

Those are serious numbers.

But what makes the PR particularly interesting is what AMFLOW has done around the motor.

The PR combines that power with a carbon frame weighing approximately 2.9kg, adjustable geometry, a removable 800Wh battery and sophisticated electronic integration.

That's the part that gets us excited.

Because the goal isn't simply to make climbing easier.

It's to create an eMTB that remains engaging when the trail points back downhill.

PR Carbon vs PR Carbon Pro

The two bikes share the same fundamental PR platform, but they are aimed at slightly different riders.

AMFLOW PR Carbon

The PR Carbon is the more accessible version of the platform, pairing the carbon frame with the Avinox M2 drive unit which delivers a standard 110 Nm of torque and a massive 125 Nm Boost Mode, providing 1,100W of peak power to crush the steepest trails.

It gets the same 800Wh removable battery, adjustable geometry and integrated technology as the Pro, while using a more straightforward component package including a FOX AWL HD Sport fork and FOX Float Rhythm rear shock.

For riders looking for a high-performance eMTB that can handle everything from long trail days to technical terrain, it offers an impressive combination of capability and value.

AMFLOW PR Carbon Pro

Then there's the PR Carbon Pro.

This is where things get seriously interesting.

The Pro gets the Avinox M2S, delivering up to 150Nm of torque and 1,500W peak power, alongside a FOX 36 Performance fork, FOX Float X Performance rear shock and Magura Gustav Pro brakes with 203mm rotors.

It's the bike for riders who want to take the PR platform and push it harder.

Two versions of the same platform — the PR Carbon and PR Carbon Pro.

800Wh — And You Can Actually Take It Out

One of the biggest differences between the PR and many conventional eMTBs is hiding inside the frame.

The PR uses a removable 800Wh battery.

It can be removed from the bike for charging, meaning you don't necessarily need to bring the entire bike inside to recharge it. AMFLOW's slide-rail and battery-lock system is designed to make battery removal quick and straightforward.

For New Zealand riders, that's a genuinely useful feature.

Whether you're charging at home, travelling to a trailhead, staying somewhere without easy bike storage or planning a multi-day riding trip, being able to remove the battery changes how you can use the bike.

And for riders looking at longer adventures, AMFLOW also offers the option of an additional RS600 battery on compatible frame sizes.

Power Without the Noise

More powerful motors don't have to mean more noise.

The Avinox M2S uses a combination of helical and planetary gear design to keep operating noise exceptionally low, with AMFLOW quoting operation as low as 45dBA under its test conditions.

Why does that matter?

Because mountain biking isn't supposed to sound like you're riding a small motorcycle.

On a quiet forest trail, the sound of tyres on dirt, suspension working beneath you and the trail itself are part of the experience.

The PR is designed to keep the motor in the background while you concentrate on riding.

Full-power assistance without overwhelming the riding experience.

A Bike You Can Tune to the Trail

This is one of the features that really separates the PR from a lot of conventional eMTBs.

AMFLOW gives the PR up to 40 geometry configurations.

That sounds complicated — but the principle is actually straightforward.

The head angle can be adjusted through five positions, the bottom bracket through two settings and the chainstay through four positions. Those combinations allow riders to alter the bike's behaviour depending on their riding style and terrain.

Want a more stable bike for fast, steep terrain?

You can slacken the geometry.

Want a more agile setup for tighter trails and climbing?

You can move in the other direction.

It's essentially the ability to fine-tune the character of the bike rather than accepting one fixed geometry.

Mullet Setup: Stability Where You Need It, Agility Where You Want It

The PR uses a 29-inch front wheel and 27.5-inch rear wheel configuration.

It's a combination that has become popular for aggressive trail and enduro riding for good reason.

The larger front wheel helps roll over obstacles and maintain momentum, while the smaller rear wheel can make the bike feel more agile and easier to manoeuvre through tighter terrain.

Combine that with the adjustable chainstay length and head angle and the PR offers an unusually broad range of setup possibilities.

It's not just a bike designed for one type of trail.

It's a platform you can configure around how you ride.

The technology behind the PR — powerful, integrated and designed around the rider.

Smart Technology That Actually Makes Sense

AMFLOW hasn't stopped at the motor and battery.

The PR integrates a suite of connected technology including GPS, Bluetooth, OTA updates, route-file support, custom assistance settings and bike protection features. It also supports Apple Find My, giving compatible users another way to locate the bike.

There's also an integrated 2-inch OLED display and wireless controls.

But perhaps the most interesting technology is SmoothShift.

On compatible SRAM electronic drivetrains, the Avinox system can allow gear changes while coasting, helping maintain rhythm when the terrain changes quickly.

It's the kind of technology that doesn't exist simply because it can.

It exists to make riding smoother.

So, What Makes the PR Different?

It's tempting to look at an eMTB and compare only motor power, battery size and suspension travel.

The PR makes that comparison more difficult.

Because its advantage is the combination.

Lightweight carbon construction

A carbon frame weighing around 2.9kg gives AMFLOW a strong foundation for keeping the overall bike manageable while maintaining stiffness and durability.

Serious motor performance

The PR Carbon Pro's 150Nm / 1,500W Avinox M2S system delivers a level of assistance that puts it firmly in the high-performance eMTB category.

800Wh removable battery

Long-range capability without permanently trapping the battery inside the frame.

Adjustable geometry

Up to 40 configurations means the bike can be tuned to suit different riders and trails.

Quiet assistance

The Avinox drive system is engineered to minimise motor noise, helping maintain the natural feel of riding.

Integrated technology

GPS, connectivity, custom assist modes, OTA updates, navigation features and bike protection are integrated into the platform rather than bolted on as afterthoughts.

The New Zealand Arrival

And now comes the exciting part.

The AMFLOW PR Carbon and PR Carbon Pro are due to land in New Zealand this September!

For local riders, this is an opportunity to get hands-on with one of the most technically interesting new eMTB platforms to hit the market.

On paper, the numbers are impressive.

But numbers don't tell the whole story.

The real question is how a lightweight carbon eMTB with this level of power, adjustable geometry, a removable high-capacity battery and integrated technology actually feels on New Zealand trails.

That's what we're looking forward to finding out.

Built for big days, technical trails and everything between.
