After two years of development and testing the MK5 Penthouse Flat is here. Retaining our signature toughness, the MK5 is the lightest and grippiest Burgtec pedal to date. We did this by not only increasing the size of the pedal platform but also how concave it is. Furthermore, we reduced the diameter of the pins and added the most wear-resistant internals on the market. From the outside to the inside, we've sweated the details of the MK5 to bring you the ultimate flat pedal.

We didn't stop to think about the future when our journey started some 17-years ago on the slopes of Schladming in '03. The prototype MK1 Penthouse Flat that debuted that weekend inevitably paved the way for the MK2 in '07, the MK3 in '09 and the MK4 in '14. While much has changed in that time, our focus towards building the toughest and grippiest flat pedals on the market remains the same.

Our goals for the MK5 mountain bike pedals followed the same design and development path as every other pedal before it; utilise any advances in materials and manufacturing, balance the weight and durability, and maximise the amount of grip. From the MK4 to the MK5, we shed 65 grams per pair. The platform footprint was increased by 7%, the dish by 1mm and the pin width was decreased by 0.5mm.

Refinement
Taking on feedback from the MK4 mtb pedals we tried a number of different Q-factors to balance the foot's position in relation to the cranks.
With every flat pedal shoe on the market at our disposal, we experimented with different platform sizes, pin widths, and pin heights to maximise grip underfoot.

It was of the utmost importance that the MK5's internals represents the best of the best. To do this we specced the most wear-resistant bushings from Igus. Their "Endurance Runner" material - W300 - was a clear winner as this gave unrivalled resistance to external influences. Mud and water ingress is kept at bay with a full-contact oil seal. This keeps grease in and contaminants out even in the harshest of conditions. This configuration of quality parts is why the Penthouse series has a reputation for outstanding longevity.

We focus on keeping our product prices as low as possible rather than building shipping costs into the price and then offering "free" shipping on everything. These fees are not about making money but simply recouping the shipping costs particularly for larger items.

NZ Islands Courier Charges:

If you order with us and live on a NZ Island like Waiheke and Great Barrier etc our customer care team will contact you immediately to discuss freight charges/options.

We therefore pay the courier fees ourselves however the fees to the Island communities have become so exorbitant we can't cover all of those costs and will discuss options.

Bulky Items:

Additional charges may also apply to bulky order that measure outside the normal courier package parameters. Our friendly customer care team will contact you right away if this is the case.

Processing Times:

All orders are processed during weekday business hours (9 am – 5 pm Monday to Friday.) Orders made on weekends and public holidays will be processed the next business day.

While we try to have most products in our store and warehouse at all times if the product is not in stock we will order from our New Zealand-based suppliers. We will contact you to advise you of this and inform you of any delivery delays.

Track and trace:

We work with multiple couriers for delivery, including NZ Post NZ Couriers, and Post Haste. Once your package has left our building and been scanned on board by the courier you will receive an automated email from us with your track and trace details so you can follow its progress.

Please note: queries for missing/lost items must be completed within 14 days of despatch and queries for damaged items within 7 days of delivery. If you do not lodge a query with us within these time frames, we will be unable to make a claim with our courier.
